How to manage your budget while on vacation?

While planning our perfect vacation, we all look for different ways to save some money by comparing prices to find the best airline ticket deal or hotel. Once the planning is done and we have found our perfect destination, it’s time to travel.

We all want to explore and experience the destination we are at like locals do, however prices for tourists tend to be higher thus we have to make smart choices. Here are are some hacks how to enjoy your vacation without worrying about money.

  1. Grocery shopping

Eating out while on vacation can be very pricey, so it is a good idea to plan ahead and go grocery shopping when you arrive. Make a list of the things you need and visit a local supermarket. It is okay to treat yourself a couple of times with a fancy dinner or lunch, however if you want to save some money and spend it on some other interesting activities, cooking at home is a good idea.

  1. Public transportation

When you are visiting a country you have never been to before, it is only natural that you will want to see some other cities or explore other parts of the one you are staying at. Instead of renting a car, consider public transportation. A lot of bus stations offer weekly or monthly tickets that will get you to all the places you want.

It is also a good idea to check if public transportation is available from the airport to your accommodation before you go on your vacation. Why waste a lot of money on a taxi, if there is a much cheaper way to get to your accommodation and you miss it because you did not check.

  1. Currency

When you arrive, search for good places to get cash in the local currency. A quick internet search can save you a lot of money, if you find the right place with the best exchange rate.

  1. Talk to locals

Locals have been there for a while now and they know where the best and the cheapest places are. Talk to them, and ask for a recommendation for a good restaurant, club, coffee place, supermarket and everything else you need.

  1. Wi-Fi

Be sure to turn off your cellular data when in a different country, because this can be very expensive. You can even be charged for text and calls you receive, and it can add up to a very high figure.

Use messaging apps such as Skype, Viber or WhatsApp to talk to your friends and family back home, without any additional charges. It is a great way to keep in touch, and you do not have to worry about huge phone bills.

When on vacation, the last thing you need to worry about is money, so these hacks are a great way to have a carefree experience knowing you are not overpaying and still having the best time.

Please share with us some of your favorite money hacks while on vacation. We are always in a search for new ones.
