Manigo Travel Gem – Whitehaven beach – Australia

In this week’s Manigo Travel Gem we are writing about Whitehaven beach, a slice of paradise in Australia.

A group of 74 islands called The Whitsunday Islands that lie off the coast of Queensland, Australia is one of the most popular Australian tourist destinations. Most of the islands are national parks and some major attractions include snorkelling and diving near coral reefs. An amazing experience is magnified by beautiful pristine beaches such as Whitehaven beach and the clear warm water.

This beautiful gem, Whitehaven beach, was discovered in 1879 by Staff Commander EP Bedwell. The beach is 7km long and stretches along Whitsunday Island in Australia. This beach is known for its white sand and the breathtaking view that it offers. The sand consists of 98% pure silica, which gives it that beautiful bright white colour. Rocks on the beach do not contain silica, so it is very likely that the sand has been brought by sea currents over millions of years. The sand does not retain heat so walking barefoot on a hot day is no problem – what a dream!

The Clean Beach Challenge State Awards honoured the Whitehaven Beach as Queensland’s Cleanest beach. It was also named the Top Eco-Friendly Beach in the world by CNN. Because of its beauty and its exquisiteness smoking is not allowed on the beach and dogs are not permitted either.

In November each year since 2009 as a part of the Hamilton Island Triathlon, a 2km open swimming competition is held on the beach.

Whitehaven Beach can be experienced in many ways. In case you want a day trip, many ferries, yachts and boats depart from Airlie Beach, Shute Harbor and Hamilton Island so you can enjoy this perfect travel gem for a couple of hours. Another option is sailing companies that offer trips which include an astonishing and unforgettable visit to Whitehaven Beach.

Whitehaven Beach has a lot to offer. From white sand beaches to warm aquamarine water, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy. The perfect combination of peace and tranquillity with untouched natural beauty.
